FAQs

Q. How often should my caravan or motorhome be serviced?

A. It is strongly advised to have your leisure vehicle serviced annually as many things can deteriorate over time even when not in use, I.e. brakes seizing, LPG hoses perishing and even spiders finding a new home in your gas appliance flues and making webs!

Q. What do you do during a caravan service?

A. We check all  running gear, chassis, wheels and tyres, over run and hitch, brakes are stripped down cleaned and adjusted if necessary, all exterior lighting is also checked.

All exterior mouldings are checked alongside the sealing of the window rubbers and roof lights. We carry out a full damp test with a report reflecting any remedy action that may be required.

We carry out a full inspection of the gas system, checking all pipe lines and appliances alongside a pressure test.

All 240v mains electrics are checked along side all 12v circuits.

This is a very brief overview of what a service covers, you should allow 3-4 hours for it to be completed.

Q. How often should I get my caravan tyres changed?

A. They should be changed every 5 years. Even with very little use the suns UV rays can damage the rubber compound. They my need changing earlier due to high mileage or a puncture. Corfe Auto & Leisure always advise never to have a puncture repair carried out on any tyre and to always replace with a new one.

Q, Do you offer any other work other than servicing?

A. We can replace windows, fit motormovers, reversing cameras, solar panel installation, we carry out damp repairs, fit air conditioning. In fact we can tackle the majority of repairs on any caravan or motorhome.

Q. I’m on holiday on a touring site and I have a problem with my leisure vehicle do you do call outs and what do you charge for them?

A. Yes we do emergency call outs. You would be advised an ETA when you contact us. We cover Dorset free of any call out charge. We also cover the surrounding counties Hants, Devon, Wiltshire and Somerset there may be a small charge depending on where you are, however you would be advised of this before we attend.

Q. Can you carry warranty work on my caravan or motorhome?

A. Yes we can, however at present we can only do this under strict instruction from your dealer or manufacturer.

Q. How long can I expect it take for the service to be carried out?

A. It usually takes around 3 to 4 hours for a caravan or motorhome habitation service. It also depends on the age of the caravan/motorhome and if we come across any problems. We normally complete the standard service the same day. Any items found to be defective and requiring repairs usually need to have a return visit booked. Repairs (unless very minor) will be chargeable at our standard hourly rate of £32.50

Q. What preparations do I need to make before an engineer attends to carry out my service?

A. We will need access to all sides of the vehicle, so allow at least 1M free access around all sides, more if possible. Water, gas and an electrical supply will be needed to test and operate the equipment on board the caravan/motorhome.

Also, don’t forget that security devices will need to be removed so that maintenance work can be undertaken. In an ideal world we would like the caravan to be clear of belongings, however we understand this isn’t always possible, but please bare in mind the less belongings inside the easier it is to carry out the service, also it helps to keep costs down.

Finally, if you think that something isn’t working correctly, please let us know beforehand, it will make it easier for us and more importantly help keep costs down.

Q. During the service, will the gas appliances in my caravan or motorhome also be serviced?

A. Gas appliances will be safety checked but not serviced as part of the basic service. You can ask for this to be carried out (at an extra cost £32.50ph). Please note some appliance manufacturers will not continue any warranty into the second or third year unless the appliance has been serviced annually – check with your appliance manufacturer to confirm their warranty policy’s.

Q. How important is it to service a gas-fuelled appliance?

A. Carbon monoxide poisoning is a real danger – in the home and in a leisure vehicle.  All owners should have their motorhome or caravan gas appliances serviced annually by a competent gas engineer and should consider using an audible carbon monoxide alarm alongside a regular smoke alarm!!
